How to choose web hosting in India without regretting it
By the Nexta Web Solution team · Updated
The short answer
For most small-business sites in India, choose NVMe cloud or WordPress hosting with an Indian or nearby server, daily backups you can restore yourself, free SSL and support that answers in hours, not days. Check the renewal price, not just the first-year offer. Move to a VPS only when you outgrow shared resources or need custom software. Good hosting for a small site costs roughly ₹1,000–2,000 a year.
Shared, cloud, VPS or dedicated?
| Type | Good for | You manage |
|---|---|---|
| Shared / WordPress hosting | Small business sites, blogs, simple stores | Only your website |
| Cloud hosting | Busier sites that need more resources and resilience | Only your website |
| VPS | Custom apps, Tally or n8n, several heavy sites, developers | The server (or pay for management) |
| Dedicated / colocation | Large workloads, compliance needs | Everything, usually with a team |
Seven things that matter more than “unlimited”
- 1Server location. If your visitors are in India, an Indian server or one close by cuts load time.
- 2Storage type. NVMe SSD is much faster than older SATA SSD or hard disks.
- 3Web server and caching. LiteSpeed or a well-tuned stack with caching makes WordPress noticeably quicker.
- 4Backups. Daily, kept for weeks, and restorable by you from the control panel.
- 5Security. Free SSL, malware scanning and a firewall should be standard.
- 6Support. Test it before you buy: ask a technical question and see how fast and how well they answer.
- 7Renewal price. Many hosts discount the first year heavily. Ask for the year-two price in writing.
What this looks like in real plans
As an example from our own hosting brand, The PowerHost (prices checked October 2026):
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| WordPress hosting (TPH-01) | ₹1,068/year | 5 sites, 20 GB NVMe, 1 GB RAM |
| Cloud hosting (TPH-02) | ₹1,428/year | 10 sites, 40 GB NVMe, 2 GB RAM |
| Indian Cloud (TPH-03) | ₹1,799/year | 10 sites, 50 GB NVMe, India server region |
| Indian VPS, entry | ₹400/month | 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 25 GB NVMe, root access |
Whichever host you choose, the account should be in your name, with your email, and with two-factor login switched on.
Moving hosts without downtime
- 1Take a full backup of files, databases and email.
- 2Set up the site on the new host and test it with a temporary URL.
- 3Lower DNS TTL a day before the move.
- 4Switch DNS, then check the site, forms and email.
- 5Keep the old hosting for a week before cancelling.
